Cough, Fever or Sore Throat Guidance (click here): Here is a summary of the guidance released by the State of West Virginia.
When students or staff are sick with a respiratory illness:
» Students and staff who get sick should stay home and away from others.
» Students are not allowed to participate in extracurricular activities while they are home sick and potentially contagious.
» Students and staff may return to school if they:
› Are fever free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medications)
› Have symptoms that are improving overall for 24 hours.
» It is recommended that a mask be worn for 5 days upon return to school.
Per Healthy Children.org Liberty Academy follows the following guidelines of when to keep your child home from school if:
- They have a fever above 101 degrees Fahrenheit within the past 24 hours
- They have had episodes of vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
- They are not well enough to participate in class
And these from the Center for Disease Control:
- Fever, including a fever with a new rash.
- Diarrhea that causes ‘accidents’, is bloody, or results in greater than two bowel movements above what the child normally experiences in a 24-hour period.
- Skin sores that are draining fluid on an uncovered part of the body and are unable to be covered with a bandage.
- Respiratory virus symptoms that are worsening or not improving and not better explained by another cause such as seasonal allergies.
